A 'Human-Free' Method for Deflecting Cyberattacks Now Operates in Russia

A new AI-powered cybersecurity system created in Russia neutralizes nearly all malicious activity without human intervention, marking a major shift in how digital infrastructure can be protected at scale.

An Autonomous Shield Against Cyber Threats

Russian tech company Yandex has unveiled an innovative service capable of repelling cyberattacks with minimal human involvement. The system neutralizes almost 100 percent of threats automatically, using an AI engine that evaluates all incoming requests in real time and distinguishes genuine user behavior from malicious bot activity.

A defining strength of the system lies in its constant self-learning cycle. After an attack is blocked, nearly every incident undergoes automated analysis. This stream of new data is added to the AI’s training set, allowing the system to evolve rapidly and stay ahead of emerging techniques used by attackers.

Continuous Adaptation for Real-World Protection

According to Alexander Kaleda, Yandex’s director of information security, the company has deflected around 800 targeted DDoS attacks since the beginning of the year. Each month, the AI system mitigates approximately 150 such attacks.

“Unlike traditional approaches based on static rules that quickly become outdated, AI can identify non‑standard combinations of technical and behavioral indicators,” Kaleda emphasized.

Many of these cyberattacks are highly sophisticated, aiming to disrupt the operation of vital services and applications. Automated protection ensures uninterrupted access to Yandex for tens of millions of users across Russia.
