IT-Livestock: Agroeco Group Unveils Digital Transformation Strategy

Agroeco Group has completed a large-scale project to design a comprehensive digital strategy covering all areas of its business. The plan, which runs through 2030, is expected to sharply increase margins and transform one of Russia’s leading agricultural holdings into a benchmark for agri-tech modernization.

A New Strategy

Agroeco officially presented its digital transformation strategy through 2030 at the “Region-2030. Platform for the Future” expo in Voronezh. The announcement came during an open discussion featuring Agroeco Board Chairman Vladimir Maslov, the Governor of Voronezh Region Alexander Gusev, Russian State Duma Deputy Chairman Alexey Gordeyev, and senators Galina Karelova and Sergey Lukin.

Maslov outlined a sweeping overhaul of the company’s agribusiness to integrate digital technologies into daily operations. The strategy was developed with support from Russian consultancy AXENIX, which specializes in strategic and technological consulting, digital services, cloud solutions, and business digitalization tools. All business divisions will be restructured under the plan.

“We are sourcing the best technologies worldwide, designing and equipping our facilities with cutting-edge tools. This year we committed to business transformation and higher efficiency,” Maslov emphasized. “We are modernizing our management system and corporate culture to reflect contemporary approaches and technologies. Alongside that, we have developed our digital transformation strategy through 2030.”

Digitalization Across the Board

Agroeco is a vertically integrated agricultural holding and a national leader in technology adoption. It manages crop production, manufactures animal feed at its own facilities, and operates some of the country’s largest pig farms, producing more than 300,000 tons of pork annually. The group has launched a fully automated meat processing plant and produces genetic material for herd development.

AI-driven solutions and a data-centric management model form the foundation of our digital strategy. We see AI not just as a tool but as a fundamental technology that will define our competitiveness in the coming years. Machine learning models and AI assistants will enable faster, data-driven decision-making while shifting the company’s focus toward technological leadership and customer orientation. In building this strategy, we emphasized tangible business value and economic outcomes, but we also dedicated significant resources to research, including technologies that no one has yet applied in agriculture

The digital strategy lays out about 100 technological projects spanning all areas of the business. It includes digital twins for functional modeling and optimization, AI-driven tools for forecasting, planning, crop rotation optimization, livestock monitoring, quality control, and production management.

IT solutions will enhance traceability and operational oversight. Automation and robotics will reduce routine manual work. Ultimately, digitalization will also modernize the company’s governance system.

The Key to the Future

In today’s climate, Agroeco views digitalization as essential for competitiveness.

“In an era of rapid technological change, artificial intelligence, and limited labor resources, we must deploy every possible tool to stay competitive and efficient,” Maslov noted.

The group’s core objective is not just to expand production volumes, but to simultaneously increase margins by growing the share of high-value finished products. Executing the strategy will boost efficiency, quality, and sustainability across the business—an outcome of significance for Russia’s entire agricultural sector. The company’s transformation could serve as a model for other agribusinesses and investors.

Increasing productivity while reducing reliance on manual labor will also raise wages and improve the status of agricultural work. At the same time, expanding production and lowering costs will make products more affordable for consumers.

Export Potential

Agroeco already exports products to India and Serbia. Its 2025 export plan includes strengthening positions in nearby markets while entering new ones in Africa and Southeast Asia. The group also intends to export its technologies and IT solutions, which may appeal to international agribusinesses facing food security challenges. Adapted Russian innovations in IT and agriculture could help increase production in countries where rapid growth is needed.
