Kaliningrad Region to Build Vertical Farm for Leafy Greens
Smart control systems will manage growing conditions and monitor production at the facility.

A new high-tech vertical farm is to be built in Russia's Kaliningrad region. The agreement was signed during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2026 by Governor Alexey Besprozvannykh and Aleksandr Danishevsky, co-founder of Fabrika Zeleni.
Plants at the facility will be grown on stacked cultivation tiers inside a fully enclosed environment. A computerized system will control the microclimate and irrigation, while modern Russian-made horticultural LED lighting will replace natural sunlight. The technology is capable of producing up to 5 kilograms of crops per square meter.
The automated complex is expected to harvest more than 62 metric tons of fresh leafy greens annually. That would allow locally grown produce to remain available in regional stores year-round. The closed-loop production model and precision-growing technologies are also expected to minimize environmental impact.
