Quantum Randomness in the Cloud: Russia Integrates a Quantum RNG into Its Cloud Platform for the First Time

Russian developers have reached a new milestone in cloud cybersecurity. The Astra Group, together with the science and education company QRate, has launched a pilot hardware-software complex — Astra Cloud with the QRate Chaos quantum random number generator. This marks the first digital solution of its kind in Russia to integrate a quantum random number generator into a cloud platform, offering new possibilities in cryptography, information security, and infrastructure protection.

Reinventing Cloud Security Through Quantum Uncertainty

The Astra Cloud platform equipped with the QRate Chaos generator uses the fundamental uncertainty of quantum processes to produce truly unpredictable random sequences. This innovation provides users with near-instant access to genuine quantum randomness as a service on Astra Cloud, making it a first in the Russian IT landscape.

The project was first presented publicly at the Digital Industry of Industrial Russia conference and has already received the Cyberlight award in the 'Cloud Without Storms' category for advancing innovation in cloud protection.

Unlike algorithmic random number generators that rely on mathematical models and can be reverse-engineered, quantum generators derive entropy from physical processes that cannot be replicated. This makes them a foundational technology for the next generation of secure digital infrastructure.

From Cryptography to Lotteries — and Beyond

According to developers, the new IT product can be applied across a wide range of industries — from generating cryptographic keys and one-time passwords to securing distributed systems and federated learning environments. The Astra Cloud complex enhances both the resilience and security of infrastructure by creating a verifiable source of randomness that can also be used for lotteries, draws, or simulations where provable fairness is required.

Furthermore, the system can stabilize generative AI models and support confidential federated computations by masking gradients during distributed training. Quantum Tech Moves from the Lab to Real-World Applications

Although the quantum-enhanced cloud complex is still in its pilot stage, it is already available for demonstration and testing. The next development phase will focus on meeting market demand in privacy-preserving computation, generative AI, information security, and cloud load optimization.

The Astra Group has invited technology partners and potential clients to collaborate on further development.
