Remote Russian Villages Finally Get High‑Speed Internet Coverage

Thousands of rural residents in Russia’s Oryol region can now tap into 4G LTE and VoLTE services, with speeds up to 50 Mbps bringing city‑level connectivity to the countryside.

Residents of some of Russia’s most remote villages are now experiencing high‑speed mobile internet and crystal‑clear voice calls thanks to expanded 4G LTE and VoLTE coverage. In the Oryol region alone, 49 localities already had fourth‑generation service, and just recently, 19 districts gained access to VoLTE technology, allowing users to make digital calls with virtually no delay and pristine audio quality.

Smartphone data rates in these rural areas now reach up to 50 Mbps, meaning villagers can stream, download, and stay connected even during peak hours. Essential services — such as the government portal “Gosuslugi” and popular messaging apps — are available around the clock, eliminating the digital divide that once left the countryside cut off from online resources.

This rollout is part of Russia’s nationwide “Bridging the Digital Divide” initiative, which aims to bring reliable, high‑speed internet and superior mobile coverage to every locality across the country. By delivering modern telecom infrastructure to outlying settlements, the project not only boosts quality of life for rural inhabitants but also drives socio‑economic growth in underdeveloped regions.
