Russian Oil Giants Embrace AI to Unlock Hard‑to‑Reach Reserves

Russian oil companies are now relying on artificial intelligence and digital twins to develop complex fields, a move Moscow says is vital for boosting output and cementing its leadership in energy innovation.

Russian Energy Minister Sergey Evgenyevich Tsivilyov recently declared that 

during an interview with Izvestia.

Tsivilyov also highlighted the importance of international cooperation in the energy sector, calling for the creation of an “energy justice” program to guarantee electricity access for all residents of participating countries.

By integrating AI into exploration and production processes, Russian operators can optimize reservoir characterization, reduce operational costs, and boost efficiency — even on the most challenging fields. According to the minister, this technological pivot underlines Russia’s leading role in applying cutting‑edge solutions within its fuel and energy complex.

Industry analysts predict that continued development of AI technologies and their rollout on domestic digital platforms will not only drive further increases in oil output but also strengthen Russia’s standing on the global energy market.
