Yandex Acquires Stake in Telemedicine Service

Yandex has taken a minority stake in the DND telemedicine platform, opening new opportunities not only for Russian patients but also for digital healthcare markets more broadly.

IT Meets Healthcare

The multinational company Yandex has acquired a 9.33% stake in the telemedicine service Diagnostics at Home (DND), which uses AI for remote consultations and diagnosis of respiratory and ENT diseases. The deal highlights the tech giant’s growing interest in healthcare technologies.

This move underscores a broader trend toward strengthening Russia’s telemedicine market and improving healthcare accessibility. By expanding remote services, it could reduce pressure on traditional clinics. Another outcome is the deeper integration of AI into diagnostics, making it more accurate and timely — helping prevent the progression of serious illnesses. The deal also opens the door for Russian AI-driven healthcare technologies to reach international markets.

Export Potential

When it comes to global prospects, Russia’s advances in AI-based diagnostics are particularly promising.

For us, financial backing is only part of the equation. What matters just as much is gaining access to Yandex’s expertise in artificial intelligence. We expect this to significantly improve the accuracy and efficiency of our service, giving doctors a more powerful diagnostic tool and providing patients with faster, smarter healthcare

These innovations are both competitive and cutting-edge, making them attractive to the international telemedicine market. Importantly, investment in the sector is continuing: in 2025 alone, Yandex plans to channel 330 million rubles (about $3.6 million) into AI projects via its Yet Another Tech Fund.

Market Growth

Interest in telemedicine has been accelerating for years. Following the COVID-19 pandemic peak in 2021–2022, the market saw rapid expansion, with revenue growth of +56% and +41% respectively.

In 2023, Rostelecom expanded its “Na Svyazi” platform, offering patients online consultations with doctors. In 2024, Yandex sold its Yandex Health service, including its app, web interface, and team, to the company Genotek.

A New Stage in Healthcare

Yandex’s investment in DND reflects a renewed focus on healthcare, this time through strategic partnerships rather than direct ownership. AI-based diagnostics could become a catalyst for growth in Russian healthcare, particularly by improving the efficiency of primary care.

In the coming years, DND could be integrated with other Yandex ecosystems — such as taxi, marketplace, or delivery — creating a fundamentally new level of “digital healthcare at home.”
