A Russian Student Built an AI Stylist That Picks Outfits Online

The tool doesn’t just find clothes—it helps users navigate the world of fashion.

A student from the Advanced Engineering School at Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics, Andrey Stroganov, is developing an AI-powered service that helps users find clothing in online stores and on major marketplaces. Stroganov told RIA Tomsk that his project, called “Podborochka” (The Pick), is designed to solve a growing problem: the overwhelming amount of clothing choices available online.

According to him, the AI assistant builds personalized wardrobes for customers based on their preferences—boosting both conversion rates and average spending for retailers.

“The idea behind the startup is simple,” Stroganov said. “We want to fully automate and personalize the process of finding clothes using artificial intelligence—and also add an assistant that gives advice on fashion trends, outfit combinations, and color matching.”

Personalized Styling in One Click

When users sign up, they select their preferred clothing style, color palette, and size. They can also upload photos of their wardrobe or inspiration images from the internet. The AI then analyzes what combinations work best, finds matching items across online stores, and visualizes the result on a mannequin.

The project team is currently developing a prototype. After initial user testing, they plan to launch a final version of the product, which could become one of the first AI-driven personal styling assistants in Russia’s growing fashion tech scene.
