AI Boosts Oil Output at Russian Field by Optimizing Water Injection

A machine learning system developed by Sibintek autonomously adjusts well operations—already adding thousands of tons of crude to production.

In Russia’s Varyeganskoye oil field, artificial intelligence is now running part of the show. The energy tech firm Sibintek reported a significant boost in output—about 4,000 additional tons of oil—after deploying an AI system that manages the field’s waterflooding process, a key step in maintaining reservoir pressure and pushing crude to the surface.

Smarter Wells, Less Manual Control

The company introduced machine learning algorithms in 2025 to process real-time data from dozens of injection wells. The neural network analyzes parameters such as flow rate, pressure, and temperature, then automatically selects the optimal injection mode for each well.

By autonomously controlling how and when water is pumped into the reservoir, the system fine-tunes performance continuously—something that previously required manual oversight and guesswork.

Sibintek says the technology will continue to expand across other production sites, positioning AI-driven optimization as a major efficiency tool in Russia’s oil industry.
