AI Is Reshaping the Job Market — Here’s What That Means for Future Careers

As automation accelerates, some professions will disappear while others become more essential. One expert says adaptability and critical thinking are the new job skills that matter.

The rapid deployment of artificial intelligence and neural networks will soon bring sweeping changes to the Russian labor market, according to Anton Kuznetsov, director of the Institute of Applied Computer Science at ITMO University.

Speaking to «Vechernyaya Moskva», Kuznetsov warned that automation will first affect low-skill jobs, such as call center operators, but will also create new opportunities in fields like medicine, law, and research.

AI is already handling repetitive tasks, and its role is set to expand. Jobs rooted in mechanical labor may vanish or undergo major transformations. In healthcare, for instance, AI is poised to assist in diagnostics, though doctors will still make final decisions.

To thrive in this environment, Kuznetsov says future professionals will need strong critical thinking, analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate with AI systems.

“Even today, artificial intelligence can handle a wide range of basic tasks, and when used skillfully, it has the potential to assist in solving complex problems,” he cautioned. “However, the person working with AI must have a certain level of expertise.”

He recommends that students start learning IT and the fundamentals of AI as early as high school. As technology evolves, so will careers — and those who adapt will stay ahead of the curve.
