AI Monitors Driver Behavior to Improve Road Safety in Russia

A new real-time video analytics system is helping reduce traffic accidents by tracking driver actions and vehicle status.

Russia has launched its first AI-powered video monitoring service for transportation safety. The system, SKAI.Videoanalytics, developed by SKAI (part of the MTS ecosystem), uses artificial intelligence, computer vision, and the Internet of Things to track driver behavior in real time.

The platform detects risky actions that could lead to accidents—such as fatigue, phone use, smoking, or failure to wear a seatbelt—and also monitors vehicle condition, route adherence, and technical performance.

When violations are detected, the system issues an offline voice warning, notifies the dispatcher, logs the incident, and sends an email report. This enables fleet operators to gain valuable insights and offer targeted feedback to drivers.

According to developers, the technology can reduce the number of dangerous incidents by 36%. The goal is to foster a culture of safe driving, showcasing how advanced algorithms are transforming the transportation sector and making Russian roads safer.
