AI-Powered Cameras Target Illegal Dumping in Sochi
Smart surveillance systems identify violators and track improper waste disposal in real time.

Smart cameras equipped with artificial intelligence have been successfully tested at waste collection sites in Sochi, where they automatically detect violations and record who leaves trash outside designated containers.
AI Against Illegal Dumping
The system has already been deployed at 20 sites, and authorities are now selecting locations for permanent installation. Priority will be given to areas with frequent violations and where deployment is technically feasible.
The cameras can recognize vehicles blocking access to containers or parking on lawns. They also detect when trash is left outside bins instead of being properly disposed of. License plate recognition accuracy exceeds 95%, and the system operates around the clock.
Building Clean Infrastructure
In addition to monitoring violations, authorities are expanding infrastructure for waste sorting.
Fifty large-capacity containers have been installed for bulky waste such as furniture and household appliances. However, these are not suitable for construction debris, used tires or wood waste, which require separate disposal systems. Dedicated containers are provided for these categories.
The city has already installed 668 new standard waste containers and plans to procure another 500.
Artificial intelligence will help ensure that this infrastructure is used properly and without violations.
