AI to Diagnose and Treat Plant Diseases in Russia

Two artificial intelligence platforms are set to make Russian agriculture more efficient and environmentally sustainable.

Stavropol State Agrarian University is launching two AI-based platforms for the country’s agribusiness sector. The first project is an intelligent digital system for greenhouse farms built on computer vision and machine learning. It will analyze real-time images of plants to detect diseases and pest infestations, while also forecasting potential risks.

The Competence Center “AgroPromTsifra” will create a database of healthy and infected plants at different stages of growth. Using this data, scientists will develop a mathematical model capable of “diagnosing” plant health based on camera input.

Smart Farming with Drones and AI

The second project, developed jointly with the company Inno-Agro, focuses on a differentiated system for applying plant protection agents using drones. A neural network will process multi- and hyperspectral imagery to ensure precise and efficient chemical application, reducing waste and environmental impact.

Currently, specialists are collecting and classifying data across various crops to build a robust database for identifying plant diseases, pests, and weeds.
