AI Used to Help Diagnose Skin Cancer in Sverdlovsk Region
The algorithm was integrated into a mobile app for doctors.
The Sverdlovsk Region has completed a pilot project testing a neural network as an assistant for doctors. The project was conducted at the Sverdlovsk Regional Dermatovenereologic Dispensary, where more than 30 doctors tested a new mobile app called Pro rodinki (About Moles). Its algorithms scanned skin lesions and assessed how likely they were to be dangerous.
During the pilot project, about 1,200 people were screened using the app. The AI identified 204 suspicious lesions. In 112 cases, a diagnosis of skin cancer was subsequently confirmed. Patients with borderline changes and precancerous conditions were placed under medical observation. Diagnostic accuracy reached approximately 90%.
The Pro rodinki mobile app is expected to be rolled out to other medical facilities in the Sverdlovsk Region in 2027.
