Another Russian City Deploys “Smart Patrols”

Serpukhov is rolling out AI-powered monitoring vehicles as automated control of urban environments becomes standard across Russia.

Russian cities are increasingly adopting “smart patrols”—mobile systems that use artificial intelligence to scan urban spaces. The latest to join the trend is Serpukhov, where city officials are preparing to deploy vehicles equipped with advanced monitoring gear.

Mounted on specialized transport, the technology will track everything from cracked roads and illegal street vendors to graffiti and overflowing trash containers. The system feeds data in real time into a centralized digital platform so problems can be addressed quickly.

Serpukhov is not the first city to test the idea. Similar systems are already live or in trial phases elsewhere. In Omsk, cars fitted with cameras identify not just lawn parking but also illegal waste dumping. In Tyumen, patrols will automatically issue fines, while in Khanty-Mansiysk, Surgut, and Nizhnevartovsk, the technology is undergoing pilot runs.
