Cyber-Sheriff Goes on Duty and Finds 10 Debtors

A hardware and software system called Kiber-sherif (Cyber-Sheriff) has begun operating in Samara, identifying vehicles belonging to debtors directly in moving traffic. On its first patrol, it helped locate 10 people with outstanding debts.

According to the regional bailiff service, the onboard system can identify cars and other vehicles belonging to debtors. Cameras mounted around its video display panel read license plates as vehicles pass by.

The license plate numbers are sent to a bailiff’s work tablet, which displays information about the debtor and the amount owed. The vehicle owner is informed that if the debt is not paid, the vehicle will be seized and taken to an impound lot.

So far, Kiber-sherif has gone on patrol only once, but it has already identified 10 debtors.

“In practice, vehicle owners who do not want to lose possession of their property generally try to pay their debts on the spot,” the Main Directorate of the Federal Bailiff Service for the Samara Region said.
