The tools are part of a growing ecosystem of AI services, now used across 43 clinical pathways in the city. Their primary purpose is to serve as a “second pair of eyes,” capable of instant image analysis. For joint fractures involving multiple micro‑fissures, diagnostic speed and accuracy determine treatment strategy and long‑term mobility outcomes. A missed detail can lead to deformities, chronic pain, or loss of movement.

What the AI Does

The algorithm evaluates X‑rays using predefined clinical parameters, runs computational assessments, and assists in forming the radiologist’s report. It highlights details that may escape even an experienced specialist—especially under high workload or fatigue—such as detecting multiple fractures instead of a single obvious break. This accelerates clinical decision‑making, which is crucial for patient recovery.

The project is the result of collaboration between Moscow’s Department of Health—specifically its Center for Diagnostics and Telemedicine—and the Department of Information Technologies. This is not a standalone initiative: AI‑powered imaging tools have been developed and tested in Moscow for five years, demonstrating a consistent, structured approach to healthcare digitalization.
