Digital Health Units Bring Care to Remote Russian Villages

In 2025, AI-powered mobile health units helped more than 12,000 residents of Russia’s Perm region, delivering primary care and checkups even in the most remote areas.

These mobile feldsher-obstetric stations—known as digital health units—are designed to provide primary medical care and routine screenings both at local clinics and on field visits. Each unit is equipped with an electrocardiograph, pulse oximeter, blood pressure monitor, and blood and urine analyzers (for glucose and cholesterol). All patient data is stored in electronic health records, and a neural network can interpret ECG results.

The units do not require an internet connection, ensuring uninterrupted care even in areas without reliable network coverage. According to the developer, Sberbank, this makes them uniquely suited for Russia’s vast rural territories.
