Digital proficiency is becoming the new norm for Russian medical professionals

Digital proficiency is rapidly becoming a new professional standard for Russian clinicians, with AI tools increasingly supporting diagnostics, documentation, and clinical decision-making.

AI Enhances Diagnostics and Clinical Decision-Making

Russia’s healthcare system is undergoing a rapid digital transformation. Proficiency with advanced tools—including artificial intelligence—is becoming an essential skill for physicians. According to the Moscow Region government, AI technologies are already playing a major role in supporting clinicians, freeing up more time for patient care.

Maksim Zabelin, Minister of Health of the Moscow Region, emphasized that modern physicians are not being replaced by machines.

“Our vision is simple: the doctor of the future is the one who knows how to use digital tools effectively. And we are already preparing the healthcare system for this,” Zabelin told TASS.

AI in Russian medicine has become a full-fledged working tool. A survey conducted across 55 medical institutions in the Moscow Region showed that more than one-third of physicians actively use AI. The most common applications include documentation analysis, interpretation of diagnostic results, information retrieval, and automation of routine tasks.

Digital Technologies Become Part of Everyday Medical Practice

What makes this transformation unique is its holistic nature. Authorities are not merely introducing software—they are intentionally shaping a work environment where technology becomes a reliable assistant to clinicians.

“Digital technologies are becoming part of the daily work of medical professionals. This accelerates processes, reduces workloads, and allows specialists to devote more attention to patients,” the minister noted.

The next steps include broader use of intelligent systems for diagnosing complex cases and automating medical reporting.
