Digital Technologies Are Transforming Russian Agriculture

Russia’s agribusiness sector is undergoing a rapid digital shift, with online platforms, big data, and AI reshaping everything from planting to global trade.

Russia’s agricultural industry is moving steadily toward full digital transformation. The adoption of advanced technologies is already helping farmers work more efficiently, react faster to changes, and close deals at record speed. This technological surge not only boosts the country’s agribusiness productivity but also strengthens global food security.

Experts note that digital tools now cover every stage of the supply chain — from field to port. More than 70% of farmers use online platforms to track prices, and the share of digital transactions has grown sharply. The speed of deal-making has increased two to three times.

“Farms that adopt digital solutions operate more efficiently and respond more quickly to seasonal and climate shifts,” said Alexey Gribanov, CEO of Demetra Holding, in an interview with RBC Trends.

Key trends include vertical integration and automation. Major agribusiness holdings are building supply chains that stretch “from field to sea,” supported by trucks, rail, grain elevators, and ports. Digital platforms tie these components together.

Geospatial data and analytics tools predict crop yields, while precision farming systems save resources. Simple mobile interfaces reduce reliance on human error, and integration with logistics enables real-time shipment tracking.

The government is actively supporting the rollout of digital agriculture.

In the coming years, the sector will increasingly rely on big data analytics, digital sensors for field monitoring, cloud computing, and machinery automation. Artificial intelligence will play a pivotal role in creating a flexible, resilient ecosystem capable of withstanding external shocks.
