Russia’s Institute of Special Education has developed an interactive map designed to assess the progress of students with intellectual disabilities.

The digital tool helps teachers analyze the results of a child’s first year of schooling and generate individualized recommendations on teaching methods and the structure of further lessons.

The interactive map was developed by special education teachers and specialists from educational institutions across different regions of Russia. A federal adapted general education program has also been created specifically for students with intellectual disabilities.

Interactive Format and Individualized Approach

The press service of the Ministry of Education added that the interactive format supports a systematic and personalized approach to the development of students with intellectual disabilities. The resource allows educators to evaluate the effectiveness of the educational process, identify gaps in a student’s knowledge, develop new corrective learning tasks, and select the most effective teaching methods.

Earlier reports noted that researchers in Russia are developing a mobile app called Moi Slova (My Words) to support communication for children and adults with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental conditions. Artificial intelligence built into the service processes text input to make speech grammatically correct.
