Expert Explains How AI Is Improving Diagnosis and Speeding Up Treatment in Russia

Artificial intelligence is becoming a trusted tool in Russian healthcare, assisting doctors in faster and more accurate diagnoses.

In Russia, artificial intelligence is being actively integrated into healthcare — not as a stand-alone diagnostician, but as a reliable assistant to doctors. This was stated in an interview with Avtoradio by Viktor Gombolevsky, a candidate of medical sciences and senior researcher at the Institute of Artificial Intelligence.

According to him, AI has been successfully used in radiology for more than five years, analyzing CT scans, X-rays, and mammograms to help detect cancer at early stages and reduce the time needed for diagnosis. However, all decisions are verified by specialists — neural networks operate only in conjunction with a physician.

"Medicine is a conservative field, and every tool undergoes rigorous testing. AI algorithms are allowed to operate only if their diagnostic accuracy exceeds 81 percent," Gombolevsky emphasized.

Today, artificial intelligence in Russian healthcare is no longer a futuristic concept, but a reality. The algorithms have already proven effective, and their role will only continue to grow.
