In Russia, Elevators No Longer Need Buttons — AI Knows Where You're Going

In a move straight out of a sci-fi user experience playbook, Russian developers are phasing out elevator buttons — and even voice commands. Now, artificial intelligence simply opens the doors and takes residents exactly where they need to go. No taps. No talk. Just step in.

Real estate developers in Russia are increasingly integrating advanced IT solutions to enhance convenience and safety in residential buildings. One standout example comes from the Tyumen region, where DM Technology is deploying smart video surveillance systems, cellular signal boosters for underground parking, and AI-powered telemetry networks.

According to the company’s commercial director, Mikhail Dunichev, the touchless elevator tech was born in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. “It significantly simplifies daily life for homeowners,” he says.

Here’s how it works: the AI recognizes each resident, automatically opens the elevator doors, and delivers them to their destination floor — all without a single button press or voice command. It’s frictionless living, optimized.

The platform is already active in cities like Tyumen, Surgut, Salekhard, and Yekaterinburg, with plans to roll it out to Moscow and other regions soon. Because in this new era of smart homes, the elevator knows you better than you know the button panel.
