In Russia, Neural Network Helps Diagnose Neurological Disorders in Children

A new AI system developed by Russian researchers accelerates diagnosis and improves accuracy in detecting serious conditions like cerebral palsy in infants.
Russian specialists have developed an innovative neural network capable of detecting early signs of cerebral palsy and other severe central nervous system disorders in infants. The project was created by experts at the Saint Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University together with the Yandex team, according to TASS.
The system analyzes MRI scans of a child’s brain, automatically labeling tissue structures and calculating the ratio of gray to white matter with up to 90 percent accuracy. This allows doctors to diagnose more quickly and select appropriate therapies.
The service runs in the cloud and is free for physicians. In the future, the developers plan to open the code so medical institutions worldwide can adopt it.
The introduction of such technology is expected to improve the quality of diagnosing serious childhood illnesses.
