In Russia, the Digital Infrastructure of Urban Transport Is Advancing

Russia is rapidly upgrading its urban mobility ecosystem through smart parking analytics and next-generation public transport stops designed to enhance convenience, safety, and sustainability.

Russian cities are accelerating the rollout of digital transport infrastructure. In Perm, an intelligent system is being deployed to search for and analyze data on vehicles parked in municipal lots. The new tool will automate the processing of information from photo and video monitoring systems, improving enforcement of parking payments.

The system will not only track compliance with parking rules but also generate data needed to issue administrative penalties. Last year, paid parking contributed approximately $4.4 million to the city budget, including $2.6 million from payments and $1.8 million from fines.

Smart Bus Stops

At the same time, the city is modernizing its transport infrastructure by installing nine “smart” bus stops. These upgraded shelters will feature video surveillance, digital information displays, internet access, and USB charging ports. One stop will be installed by late 2025, with the remaining eight scheduled for completion by November 2026.

Both initiatives are aimed at improving Perm’s digital and transport infrastructure, enhancing comfort and safety for residents, and creating a more modern urban environment.
