IRNITU to Develop Game-Based Simulator for Future Aircraft Engineers
The Department of Manufacturing Engineering Technologies and Equipment at IRNITU is developing a practice-oriented game-based simulator for training engineers for the aircraft manufacturing industry.

The project has received funding through the university's Priority 2030 initiative competition for advanced workforce training.
The simulator includes a board representing a production area, 3D-printed machine models, worker figures and cards featuring scenarios such as equipment failures, defective products and urgent orders. Students will work in teams to plan production processes, select equipment and purchase materials. During the two-hour exercise, participants will complete the full process from receiving an order to calculating production costs.
According to Pyatykh, mistakes in selecting equipment or cutting conditions lead to defective parts and missed deadlines, so students will be trained in production planning while taking real-world constraints into account.
Specialists from the Irkutsk Aviation Plant, a branch of Yakovlev, will take part in testing the methodology. The simulator is scheduled to be introduced into the curriculum by December 2026.
