Kamchatka Researchers Develop Digital Self-Study Course for the Koryak Language

The new learning method can be used remotely across Russia.

Researchers in Russia’s Kamchatka region have introduced a digital self-study course for the Koryak language to educators across the country. The new approach to language learning can be used remotely nationwide, according to the press service of Vitus Bering Kamchatka State University.

The self-study tool is called KORYAK TUYU. It was presented at a nationwide congress of teachers of native languages and literature of Indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia, and the Far East held in Surgut.

Developed With Native Speakers

The Koryak language self-study course is a fully developed digital product. It was created by researchers at Kamchatka State University under the leadership of Yulia Fayzrakhmanova, a candidate of philological sciences. The application was developed in close cooperation with native speakers of the language and school teachers.

Participants at the congress were able to download the program onto their smartphones. The Koryak language can now be studied by anyone interested.

Earlier reports noted that the Nenets language is expected to be added to the Yandex Translate service by the end of 2026.
