Karelia Launches Interactive Map for Personal Firewood Harvesting
Authorities in Russia's Republic of Karelia have introduced an interactive map to help residents identify approved forest plots where they can harvest firewood for personal use.
A new interactive map has been developed for residents of the Kem Municipal District, showing forest areas where citizens are authorized to cut trees for firewood. The initiative was announced by the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Republic of Karelia.
Using the map, residents can review the location of available forest plots, choose the most suitable site, and plan their visit in advance. After selecting a plot, they must apply to the Kem Central Forestry Office to sign a timber purchase agreement.
The ministry noted that residents from any district of Karelia are eligible to harvest firewood for personal use, provided they obtain the required agreement. Commercial timber harvesting for businesses will continue to be conducted through auctions. According to the ministry, this approach helps ensure that municipalities have sufficient firewood supplies, including fuel for eligible beneficiaries and residents who are unable to harvest wood themselves.
