Murmansk Region Students Develop Marine Robotics Strategy
Students at Murmansk Arctic University presented a strategy for developing marine robotics in the region during a Rostec strategic session focused on collaboration between academia and industry.
Over two days, the students worked under the guidance of Rostec experts and Alexander Lyukhter, director of the Research and Education Center for Laser Technology Implementation and an adviser to the leadership of Vladimir State University. They examined the competitive advantages of both the Murmansk region and the university, assessed the potential of other regions and analyzed prospective demand for marine robotics technologies.
The discussions included Olga Stepakova, the region’s deputy governor and minister of digital development; Deputy Governor Olga Vovk; and Rustam Borovik, head of the Arktichesky tsentr kompetentsiy {Arctic Competence Center), an autonomous nonprofit organization. Stepakova proposed further work on requirements for a marine testing ground. She said there is currently no regulatory framework for such facilities, even though they are essential for deploying technologies developed in Russia.
