Nornickel Eyes Up to 50 Billion Rubles in Annual Gains From AI
Company president Vladimir Potanin said artificial intelligence could generate up to 50 billion rubles (about $660 million) a year for the mining giant.

Nornickel aims to raise the economic impact of artificial intelligence deployment to 50 billion rubles (about $660 million) annually by 2030, Potanin said.
AI is being rolled out across a wide range of operations. At ore processing facilities, neural networks already control 70% of equipment and make decisions 100 times more frequently than human operators. The technology helps offset labor shortages at remote sites, while not replacing human workers. Instead, it takes over routine tasks, freeing up time for staff to focus on more complex decisions.
The company has been actively deploying AI technologies since 2021.
