QR Codes Now Handle Half of All Mail Pickups in Parts of Russia

Russian post offices are speeding up delivery services by letting customers collect mail and packages using QR codes—sometimes cutting wait times to just 30 seconds.

Digital transformation is accelerating at Russian post offices. In the Saratov region, 51.4% of mail and package pickups now happen via QR code. According to Russian Post, more than 675,000 deliveries were collected this way in the first half of the year.

The service is built into the updated Russian Post mobile app. Previously, verifying a customer’s identity via SMS and manually searching for packages took up to two minutes. Now, clerks simply scan a QR code on the customer’s smartphone, reducing service time to 30 seconds.

Nationwide, QR-code use is also growing. Around 30% of customers now use the feature for both sending and receiving mail. The app also supports courier delivery, electronic mail, package tracking, and the creation of digital authorizations.

Russian Post is also expanding its role in cybersecurity. The organization will serve as the foundation for a national information security system. Over the next three years, around 20 major companies will collaborate on innovative practices and share successful approaches to securing digital infrastructure.
