Rosatom and Belarus Expand Tech Ties Beyond Nuclear Power

Russia’s nuclear giant is repositioning itself as a digital powerhouse, using IT to deepen ties with Belarus.

A second meeting of the Russian-Belarusian IT working group took place this week in Minsk, with discussions centered on how digital tools could reshape the nuclear sector. Rosatom, Russia’s state nuclear corporation, showcased its latest technological developments for potential joint projects. The company already has extensive experience in digitally upgrading some of the world’s most complex industrial systems.

On the Russian side, talks were led by Evgeny Abakumov, Rosatom’s director of information and digital technologies. Representing Belarus was Kirill Zalevskiy, the country’s minister of communications and informatics.

The two delegations explored how Rosatom’s digital platforms could be adapted for Belarusian industries. Areas of focus included telecommunications, big data, and artificial intelligence. Minister Zalevskiy underscored the shifting identity of Rosatom, calling it not only a nuclear energy provider but also a major IT holding.
