Rosneft Trains Hundreds of IT Specialists for Russia’s Oil and Gas Sector

Russia’s largest state-owned oil company is doubling down on digital training, pushing 3D modeling skills deeper into the country’s energy workforce.

Rosneft, the state-controlled oil giant, is continuing its push to develop IT talent for the energy industry, with a strong emphasis on 3D modeling. In the first half of 2025 alone, more than 600 specialists completed training in this field at the company’s Ufa research institute.

The institute has become one of Russia’s key hubs for digital design and engineering. Participants are taught to create and edit information models of industrial assets, master digital software tools, and prepare technical documentation with modern digital platforms. This year, Rosneft expanded its program with a new course for “TIM managers” — professionals tasked with overseeing information models of large-scale construction projects.

Each year, more than 2,500 employees go through digital training at Rosneft’s Ufa center. In 2025, the curriculum was further broadened to cover work with digital platforms and information systems tied to drilling calculations and other areas critical to the company’s operations.
