In the near term, 85 new “smart” cameras will be installed across the region’s road network to improve transport safety. The devices operate using artificial intelligence.

The cameras will continuously analyze road conditions and detect incidents in real time. When an event occurs, the data is immediately transmitted to emergency services. All information is aggregated within the control center of ITS RO (regional intelligent transport system).

The regional transport ministry said priority locations were selected based on the highest concentration of conflict points, potentially hazardous areas, and zones with recurring traffic congestion across the Rostov urban agglomeration.

Earlier, regional authorities said they plan to allocate nearly 85 million rubles (about $900,000) to upgrade the intelligent transport infrastructure. Planned measures include installing traffic detectors to collect vehicle flow data, configuring and synchronizing communication cabinets, and deploying information security tools.
