Russia Builds a Digital Ecosystem to Shield Agricultural Research

Russia is launching a secure digital infrastructure to protect advances in plant breeding, genetics, and seed science from cyber threats and data breaches.

A new initiative in southern Russia is aiming to fortify the protection of the country’s agricultural science. Russian agri-tech firm AgroPromCifra, together with the RuSeed agro-biotech park in the Republic of Adygea, is developing a secured IT ecosystem designed to shield residents from data leaks, cyberattacks, and external interference in genetics, plant breeding, and seed-science research.

This digital infrastructure will span the entire biotech park, ensuring secure data governance and safeguarding innovative projects from intrusion or exploitation.

The project relies on an “industrialization triangle” model: private businesses supply infrastructure, scientists drive biotechnology and breeding breakthroughs, and the state provides comprehensive support.

The total investment in the project is about $11.25m. The ecosystem will be built using domestically developed platforms, ensuring that critical data and innovations are stored securely within Russia's own digital infrastructure.

Creating this protected digital environment at RuSeed is not only about cybersecurity — it’s a strategic move to advance Russia’s agricultural science and establish a more resilient and self-sufficient innovation pipeline in food production.
