Russia Debuts First Walking Excavator Simulator to Train Miners

A new full-motion simulator is preparing Russia’s next generation of mining machine operators—teaching both controls and emergency responses.

Russia’s first dynamic simulator for the ESH 20/90 walking excavator has begun training mining equipment operators. The simulator was acquired by En+Coal, which commissioned the one-of-a-kind unit to support workforce development in the mining industry.

Designed to replicate real-world conditions, the simulator accounts for geological features and harsh climate variables. A moving cab and immersive wraparound screens create a highly realistic experience. Operators learn not only how to control the machinery, but also how to respond in abnormal and emergency situations. The system records mistakes and delivers detailed feedback after each session.

En+Coal emphasized that mining jobs are prestigious and well-paid—but demand serious training. The company says it will continue investing in advanced digital tools to prepare skilled specialists for the industry.
