Russia Debuts Homegrown Gaming Console Running on Domestic Operating Systems

Three prototypes were unveiled, each designed to work exclusively on Russian platforms as part of the country’s tech sovereignty push.

A Russian tech firm has unveiled a domestically developed gaming console at the Digital Industry of Industrial Russia conference. According to Rossiyskaya Gazeta, three different prototypes of the portable device were showcased, varying in screen size, button layout, and other hardware features. Each prototype runs exclusively on Russian-made operating systems—Alt OS, Aurora, and Uncom OS—making it a symbol of the country’s growing emphasis on digital independence. Notably, the devices feature gamepad buttons labeled in Cyrillic, replacing the standard ABXY configuration with АБВГ. The manufacturer plans to replace all foreign-made components with domestically produced parts within five years and to register the console with Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade. If successful, the console could emerge as a viable alternative to American and Chinese gaming platforms under Russia’s import substitution strategy.
