Russia Deploys Unmanned Cranes in Metallurgy

A Moscow startup is rolling out AI-powered crane systems to boost safety and precision in steel production.

Moscow-based startup Virsine Innovations has begun implementing a system for autonomous control of grab cranes at the Novolipetsk Steel plant. The technology is designed to reduce risks for workers and improve the accuracy of loading and unloading operations, according to Vecherneyaya Moskva.

The pilot project started in 2023, when the plant became the first to support the development. Operators already control cranes remotely, and by the end of 2025, the equipment is expected to operate fully autonomously.

In addition, the company will present a VR simulator for operator training at the 'Unmanned Systems: Technologies of the Future' forum. The tool will help new operators master the profession faster and reduce errors.

Founded by graduates of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, the company is actively developing technology for industry and logistics. Its solutions are already used in China, the UAE, Turkey, and Kazakhstan. In 2025, it formed an alliance with Severstal-Infocom for VR-based training.
