Russia Develops AI-Powered Noise Cancellation for Mobile Calls
A new telecom technology cleans up background noise in real time—directly on the operator’s network, not your phone.

Russian company MTS Web Services (MWS) has unveiled AI TelcoMixer, an intelligent noise suppression system that removes background sounds during phone calls in real time. Unlike typical noise-canceling features found in smartphones or earbuds, this system operates on the carrier’s infrastructure, filtering noise for both callers and recipients simultaneously.
Smarter Calls by Default
Previously, such features were only available on select smartphones or messaging apps and had to be manually activated—something most users never did. AI TelcoMixer, by contrast, works automatically, using machine learning to distinguish speech from ambient noise.
A recent survey by MTS found that 91% of Russians have interrupted phone calls because of noise, with over half often talking in loud environments. Common noise sources include traffic (75%), street sounds (61%), and crowded public spaces (52%).
The AI TelcoMixer system is currently being tested on 4G/LTE networks in Moscow and the Moscow region, with plans to expand nationwide. If successful, it could mark a new era for telecoms—where artificial intelligence keeps every conversation crystal clear.
