Russia Develops App to Measure Trash Accumulation in Containers

A new mobile app from Russia’s Ecological Operator will track how quickly garbage containers fill up. The tool is expected to make waste disposal tariffs more accurate and transparent.

In Russia, tariffs for waste collection may soon be calculated based on actual trash accumulation. The new app, developed by the Russian Ecological Operator, allows inspectors to measure container fill levels in real time and propose fairer pricing based on intensity and volume of waste.

According to the company, the application is part of the federal information system for waste management. It is designed for use by professional inspectors only, making their work more efficient.

The app includes video recording and photo capture functions to document measurements, ensuring transparency at every stage and making results more objective. All data is uploaded online to the system, enabling oversight of the entire waste disposal process.
