A computer-based simulator designed to train oil refinery operators was demonstrated at Russian Energy Week. The project has already received high marks from industry experts and won an international IT championship for the oil industry.

According to its developers, modern oil refineries increasingly resemble supercomputers, with thousands of sensors. A virtual environment is ideally suited to training specialists to operate this complex network of equipment. It allows them to practice all the necessary skills without putting people or equipment at risk. In the future, the new system could become part of a digital ecosystem designed to speed up specialist training.

“Finalists from previous years’ IT championship are now working successfully at the company, and some are developing their ideas into full-fledged projects through our startup accelerators,” said Anton Dumin, IT director at Gazprom Neft.
