Russia Expands Satellite Internet Access to Remote Regions

Kamchatka and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area will be connected to high-speed satellite internet as part of a national initiative to bridge the digital divide.

Kamchatka and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area are set to be connected to satellite internet in 2025, according to Alexey Shelobkov, head of ICS Holding, during an interview with Russia 24.

The contracts for satellite connectivity will be signed this year by Bureau 1440, a subsidiary of ICS Holding. The initiative is part of a broader effort to deploy a constellation of low-Earth orbit satellites aimed at delivering high-speed data services.

Shelobkov emphasized that satellite internet will eventually be available throughout Russia, with priority given to regions where connectivity needs are most urgent.

The first contract under this program was signed last year with the Republic of Sakha, and additional agreements are expected this year. The first mass-produced satellites are scheduled to launch by the end of 2025.
