Russia Has Created a Next-Generation Operating System

ROSA Fresh 13.1 delivers out‑of‑the‑box stability and broad hardware compatibility, making it suitable for both home users and professionals

Device and Driver Support

The new Russian operating system ROSA Fresh 13.1 is designed for a wide audience, emphasizing stability without additional configuration and expanded hardware compatibility. The system supports automatic ACPI table corrections and driver updates, ensuring that audio devices, touchpads, Wi‑Fi modules, and displays function properly on most computers—including Xiaomi MiBook 14 models and Apple laptops with Intel processors.

Peripheral support has also been strengthened. Printers, scanners, and MFPs now connect automatically, and the HPLIP utility has received a full Russian‑language interface. Compatibility with Russian Baikal‑M processors has been improved as well.

The proprietary “Traffic Light” update system is now more reliable: it monitors laptop battery levels, reminds users to reboot, and can shut down the computer automatically after updates are installed. NVIDIA driver installation has become more streamlined—the system selects the appropriate version on its own.

Design and Interface

The interface now looks more modern, powered by KDE Plasma 6.4 with an updated dark theme and improved font rendering. For maximum compatibility, X11 remains the default, though Wayland is also available. The Chromium browser retains hardware‑accelerated video decoding, ensuring smooth playback of 4K content. The updated Mesa graphics stack supports the latest Intel and AMD GPUs, including Intel’s 14th‑generation lineup.

For Professionals

Professional users gain access to server‑grade and enterprise‑class tools: multiple PostgreSQL versions in a single repository, Python 3.11 and 3.12, improved IPSEC and Active Directory integration, and updated container and cloud technologies such as Kubernetes 1.34 and Podman 5.5. External storage handling has also been enhanced—NTFS and exFAT are now processed faster and more reliably.

“The release of ROSA Fresh 13.1 marks the shift from experimentation to reliability,” says Vyacheslav Kadomsky, Director of Strategic Development at ROSA’s IT Research Center. “We focused on making the system friendly not only for IT specialists but also for everyday users. It’s now a product that can be installed confidently on a home computer—ensuring stable peripheral support, reliable updates, and high performance whether playing video or working with documents. And this foundation will soon power our corporate release, ROSA Chrome 13.”
