Russia Has Developed an Autopilot System for Tractors and Harvesters

Russia has introduced a new autonomous driving system for tractors and harvesters, designed to boost agricultural efficiency, reduce operational costs, and address workforce shortages across the sector.

A New Step Toward Fully Automated Agriculture

Rostec’s High-Precision Systems holding has developed Meshchera, an automated control suite that enables agricultural machinery to operate autonomously. The system was unveiled at the international exhibition YUGAGRO 2025 in Krasnodar.

Meshchera is built on the Prometey software-hardware platform and the Filin positioning and leveling system. Previously, Prometey had already been used in automated firefighting systems and Depesha wheeled platforms.

The new autopilot determines a machine’s precise location and direction, calculates an optimal route, and minimizes idle trips. This significantly reduces costs and increases the productivity of agricultural operations.

Automation Across the Entire Agricultural Fleet

According to Aleksandr Dernovoy, Deputy Director General of High-Precision Systems for civilian products promotion and production control, the enterprise is actively scaling automation capabilities for agricultural machinery. Next year, Meshchera’s features will be demonstrated on a tractor intended for the agro-industrial sector.

In the future, the company plans to introduce an automation system capable of managing groups of agricultural machines simultaneously. The technology could also benefit the mining and construction industries by reducing costs, improving safety, and mitigating workforce shortages.

“We expect that this development will become another driver for the advancement of Russia’s agricultural industry,” noted Vladimir Pimenov, General Director of VNIISignal.
