Russia Introduces Its First Cyberpsychology Textbook

As digital life becomes more immersive, Russia is preparing its first interdisciplinary textbook to help students, educators, and professionals understand how technology shapes the human psyche.

Russia is preparing to release its first official textbook on cyberpsychology — a new discipline that explores how digital technologies influence human behavior and mental health. The news was reported by Izvestia, citing Valeria Demaryova, head of the Cyberpsychology Lab at Lobachevsky State University.

The textbook addresses how people interact with the internet, social media, virtual reality, and digital devices. It gives particular attention to cyberbullying, tech addiction, and how digitalization affects different social groups.

Targeted at universities, the textbook will be distributed for free and included in recommended reading lists. It is intended not only for students, but also for teachers, parents, and IT professionals. Faculty members say demand for this knowledge is growing fast, with cyberpsychology experts needed in education, HR, IT development, and cybersecurity.

The project reflects a broader push to integrate digital tools into education. As society moves deeper into the digital age, questions about how to find one's place online and balance real and virtual life are becoming urgent social challenges.
