Russia Is Set to Launch an Orbital Satellite Platform for Developers

A Russian technology company is preparing to send an experimental satellite platform into orbit, giving developers a way to test software directly in space.

At the end of the year, Russian company RUVDS plans to launch its own experimental satellite platform, RUVDSSat1, into orbit.

According to Nikita Tsaplin, CEO of VDS hosting provider RUVDS, insertion into the target orbit will take place in two stages. First, the spacecraft will be delivered by a launch vehicle, after which it will be released from the Mule 4T mother satellite developed by the Fifth Generation Design Bureau.

“We have successfully completed all preparatory stages and equipment configuration. Our RUVDSSat1 satellite has already been integrated with the mother spacecraft and is ready for launch. As with our previous mission, this one is experimental,” Tsaplin said.

The launch of the Soyuz-2.1b rocket, which will carry the spacecraft into space, is scheduled for December 28. At the initial stage, the condition of the company’s satellite will be monitored via the mother spacecraft.

Once all subsystems have been verified, RUVDSSat1 will be sent on an independent flight. Its mission is to give software developers and radio enthusiasts the opportunity to test their software directly in space on an operational satellite. The spacecraft is expected to remain in service for one year.
