Russia Is Training a New Generation of Mining Engineers

St. Petersburg Mining University and explosive-tech developer Evoblast are equipping students with real-world tools to transform the country’s extractive industries.

St. Petersburg Mining University has teamed up with the Russian company Evoblast Group to train a new wave of engineers for the mining sector. The partnership started with fitting university labs with advanced computers and actual field equipment used in mines, giving students hands-on practice in blasting operations long before graduation. The move matters well beyond campus: blasting is at the heart of mining, and its efficiency and safety shape the future of both the resource extraction and construction industries. Preparing highly skilled specialists on real equipment feeds directly into Russia’s technological sovereignty.

The collaboration extends far beyond the classroom. For several years now, students majoring in “Blasting Operations” have been interning at Evoblast sites across Russia, from the Leningrad region to Transbaikalia. This summer, students toured the company’s plant in Priozersk, where they saw the full cycle—from quarry explosions to the production of modern emulsion explosives and the deployment of specialized machinery.

Graduates trained on cutting-edge Russian technology will be ready to bring their skills directly into industry, boosting productivity. As Russia’s oldest technical university, St. Petersburg Mining is reinforcing its role as a driver of advanced mining technologies. For Evoblast, the project is a chance to shape the country’s industrial future by investing directly in education and training the workforce that will push Russian industry forward.
