Russia Launches Bot to Notify Students When Classes Are Canceled

The new tool is especially useful for residents of the country’s northern regions

A new chatbot has been launched in Russia to alert schoolchildren about class cancellations due to extreme cold or strong winds, reports Yamal-Media. The so-called “Aktirovochny Bot” is already available to residents of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District (YNAO) — one of the coldest regions in the country.

The bot sends timely notifications about school closures and current weather conditions: at 6:00 a.m. for the first shift and 11:00 a.m. for the second. The service is especially convenient for parents who previously had to check multiple sources for information on weather-related cancellations. Now, updates arrive automatically.

Learning Without Interruption

The innovation is particularly relevant for northern regions, where students may stay home when temperatures drop below –30°C. However, classes aren’t canceled entirely — the learning process continues online.

Modern technologies allow Russian schools to maintain continuous education even in severe weather conditions. Chatbots are already playing an active role in helping students with subjects such as history, Russian, and English, expanding access to knowledge regardless of location or climate.
