Russia Launches Digital Platform to Preserve the Ket Language and Culture

The Kets, an Indigenous people of Eastern Siberia, now have an online resource dedicated to their heritage.

A new digital platform for learning the Ket language and culture has been launched in Evenkia, according to the Ministry of Digital Development of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The project aims to support the Kets — one of the smallest Indigenous peoples of Eastern Siberia, who live in the northern part of the region.

The platform features a digital library and audioteka of Ket folklore, an online dictionary for translation between Ket and Russian, and a wide range of educational materials. Users can also read rare books and access academic research on Ket history and linguistics.

Preserving the Heritage of Small Indigenous Peoples

Russia’s multicultural identity makes digital preservation of Indigenous languages a national priority. Recently, the country’s e-government portal Gosuslugi launched a dedicated page for the Indigenous peoples of Yamal, consolidating regional support measures and social programs.

Projects like the Ket platform highlight how technology and culture can coexist, helping safeguard the traditions and voices of small ethnic communities for future generations.
