Russia Launches First Intelligent Digital Grid Lab to Boost Energy Resilience

A new research hub is aiming to strengthen Russia’s power infrastructure with homegrown innovations in smart grid technology, cybersecurity, and climate adaptation.

Russia has opened its first-ever Intelligent Laboratory for Digital Power Grids, marking a major milestone in the country’s energy modernization efforts. Built with contributions from leading domestic energy companies, the lab is fully equipped—from transformer substations to its own solar power station.

Each substation features unique Russian-made technologies, designed to ensure reliable energy supply to the facility and support advanced research.

The lab’s core mission includes testing and certification of electrical equipment, development of cutting-edge solutions for smart grids, and research into cybersecurity and climate resilience. A key focus will be on creating next-generation energy transmission technologies.
